Drainage Systems: What Leary’s Landscaping Offers to NJ Residents

If water collects in certain parts of your yard every time it rains, it can create a muddy mess, attract mosquitoes, seep into your basement, and weaken your house’s foundation. Leary’s Landscaping uses several types of drainage systems to address problems.

How We Can Help with Your Drainage Problem

Before we make any changes to your property, we’ll perform a thorough inspection to figure out what’s causing the issue. There are many ways to deal with poor drainage, but each approach only works in specific circumstances. Trying to address a problem with the wrong solution will be ineffective. In some cases, it can even make matters worse.

Once we’ve determined why your yard keeps flooding, we’ll recommend an appropriate drainage system. We regularly install:

  • French drains
  • Catch basins
  • Channel drains
  • Dry wells
  • Pop-up emitters

What Happens When Drainage Systems Are Installed

Having a drainage system installed will require us to modify your house’s exterior. Exactly what that entails will depend on the type of system we put in.

For example, if we determine that installing a channel drain is the best approach, we’ll cut a narrow trench in your driveway or walkway, insert a pipe, and cover it with a grate that has a series of holes to let water enter. If we install a French drain, we’ll dig a trench in your yard, insert a pipe with holes to let water in, and cover the pipe with gravel or another permeable material.

It’s not always necessary to install a drain. Sometimes the ground is sloped in a way that causes water to flow toward the house or collect in another undesirable area. In that case, adjusting the grading of the land can solve the problem.

If we have to change the grading in your yard, we’ll bring in soil and place it in specific areas to make the ground slope in a different direction. When it rains, water will flow to a street drain or another location where it won’t cause problems for you.
